LaunchpadLaunchpadLaunchpad

A seriously unique approach to starting a business at Stanford University.

What is Launchpad?

Launchpad is one of Stanford University’s most successful accelerators. Each Spring quarter d.school professors Perry Klebahn and Jeremy Utley work with 10 new ventures to incubate and launch a real business in just 10 weeks.

Since 2010, more than 60 percent of Launchpad ventures are still in business and have raised more than $500 million in venture capital funding.

The Curriculum

The Curriculum

Launchpad is not a class about entrepreneurship, and unlike any other accelerator. It’s an intense, action-based program designed for those who are primed to prototype and sell business ideas. Over the course of 10-weeks, teams will incorporate, develop robust prototypes, and find key customers and investors.

Key principles of the program:

Sell First
Find your customer, plan later

Act
Eliminate risk through experimentation

Support Fellow Teams
Collaborate with the whole cohort

Be Entrepreneurial
Embrace your creative confidence

Fail Fast, Fail Forward
Change faster than the competition

Accelerate
Prototype, test, fail, repeat

Key differentiators of the program:

  • Access to a vibrant startup network: prominent lawyers, investors, market experts, Stanford alumni, mentors, renowned incubators and accelerators (i.e. Alchemist, Y Combinator, etc) and work space in Silicon Valley

  • 9 years of proven market success

  • Support during and after the program

Launch Your Business

Apply to Launchpad 10

If you're a Stanford grad student interested in launching your business during Spring quarter, first a few considerations:

  • Application will be open February 1 – March 14, closing at 3pm PST the 14th.

  • Those accepted or rejected will be notified within a week after the application closes March 14th. The teaching team will accept around 10 teams.

  • In addition to filling out the application, students are required to attend at least two office hours (aka Launchpad Venture Hub) before the application closes and create a 1 minute video showing the need you hope to address and the product/service you have prototyped to address it.

  • Class meets Spring quarter, Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30–12:20pm, Studio 1.

  • 4 units, letter grade or credit/no credit.

We are looking for Stanford grad students from all schools who are passionate and have an overwhelming urge to start a business or launch a product or service. Please only apply if you’re ready for this big step.
